Each year, more than 100 million people get scars from acne, surgery or injuries. Approximately 70% of people will develop some kind of visible scar at some point in their lives.

If you’re concerned about the appearance of your scars, we offer effective non-surgical treatments designed to visibly reduce their visibility.

Why Scars Appear After Skin Damage

The most common types of scars people struggle with include acne scars, surgical scars, trauma scars (from cuts or accidents), burn scars, stretch marks (technically a form of scarring), and keloid or hypertrophic scars.

Acne scars, for instance, affect approximately 30% of individuals with moderate to severe acne. Whereas keloid scars occur in about 10% of people (with a higher prevalence among individuals with darker skin tones). Not to mention, stretch marks impact up to 90% of pregnant women.

But how do most scars form? In short, scars form when the deeper layer of your skin (called the dermis) is damaged. Your body starts to produce collagen to repair the damaged tissue and close the wound almost immediately after injury. During this healing period, collagen fibres are laid down rapidly to rebuild your skin.

In healthy skin, collagen fibres are arranged in a crisscross, basket-weave pattern. When a scar forms, however, collagen is produced much more quickly. These new fibres are usually thicker and line up in a parallel, more organised pattern instead of the normal random weave. This structural difference is one of the main reasons scars look and feel different from regular skin. In some cases, such as with hypertrophic scars or keloids, the body produces excessive collagen, causing the scar to become raised.

Scars can also vary in colour, ranging from red, purple, and brown to white, and may have a smooth, lumpy, firm, or sunken appearance.

Non-Surgical Ways To Fade Scars

Bear in mind that scars cannot be removed entirely. However, you can help fade them and thus reduce their appearance. This is important information to consider when booking your appointment, so you have realistic expectations. Of course, some scars can fade to the point where they become virtually invisible. It all depends on the type of scar, its location, and the treatment used.

But at Fiore, we offer the following treatment to treat scars successfully:

1. Microneedling With PRP

One of our scar treatment options is SkinPen® microneedling combined with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma). The procedure utilises an advanced microneedling device with ultra-fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, while delivering PRP (a solution composed of your body’s own natural growth factors) directly into the treated area. This process jumpstarts your body’s natural regenerative response. Together, microneedling and PRP stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, two key proteins that help restore smoother, healthier, and more resilient skin.

2. Fractional Laser Treatment

Fractional laser treatment is a highly effective option for reducing the appearance of acne scars. It works by delivering precise laser energy into the skin, creating tiny micro-injuries that break down old scar tissue while stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin. This process also encourages collagen remodelling, which gradually smooths indented (atrophic) scars and improves overall skin texture and tone. Fractional laser can also help reduce the redness and thickness of raised (hypertrophic) scars, resulting in more even skin over time.

Clinical studies support its effectiveness. A systematic review found that most patients experience 30% to 70% improvement in scar appearance after just a few sessions, with side effects such as redness, swelling, or temporary pigmentation that usually resolve within a few weeks. Another study reported improvement ranging from 40% to 75%, depending on the laser settings and scar severity. Higher-energy treatments generally produce more significant results, albeit with a slightly higher risk of temporary side effects.

3. Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are not just for lips and wrinkles; they can also be used to improve the appearance of sunken or atrophic scars, depressed surgical scars, ice pick or rolling scars, and acne scars. By injecting collagen-stimulating fillers beneath the scar, the depression is lifted, resulting in a smoother skin appearance with great success. Studies show that up to 80% of patients report noticeable improvement in scar texture and volume after dermal filler treatment.

4. Vampire Facial

A Vampire Facial can help reduce the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, and other shallow skin imperfections. The treatment involves drawing a small amount of blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the blood cells. A microneedling device then creates tiny punctures in the skin. The concentrated solution, rich in growth factors, is applied topically and penetrates deeply through these microneedling channels.

Across multiple studies, over 80% of patients report improvements in scar texture, colour, and comfort. According to a 2021 meta-analysis published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, combining this solution with microneedling results in a 45 to 70% improvement in acne scar severity scores compared to microneedling alone.

How To Decide On The Right Treatment

During your consultation with one of our skincare specialists, we will evaluate your skin type, the type and location of the scar, its severity, as well as your personal goals and tolerance for downtime before recommending the most suitable scar-reducing treatment for you. In many cases, a combination approach delivers the best results.
